Money Magic for Sex Workers: Prosperity Altars

Teaching myself how to practice magic has brought me so much prosperity and abundance that I feel it's wrong not to share what works for me. Paying my privileges and blessings forward is the only way I keep them. Without a hereditary practice to guide us, those whose recent ancestors were Christian, Jewish, Muslim or non-religious may have a more difficult time figuring out what magic is and how to practice so allow me to share my experience, strength and magical hope with you.
Creating and working a Prosperity Altar will, undoubtedly, shift our minds to the frequency of abundance and attraction because what we focus on creates our reality. If we focus on negativity, we're attracting more negativity into our lives. I had to cut negative, shit talking people out of my life and stop following negative news media before I could open the door to true prosperity because the energy, or spirit, of prosperity doesn't walk with us if we lack self love and project our insecurities onto others.
There are many negative, distracting behaviors that lead us away from true prosperity and self awareness is key for every magical practitioner. Shadow work, healing negative aspects of ourselves, is necessary if we wish to create a beautifully abundant life.
I booked a FMTY and started seeing clients for more extended sessions right after I started working a Prosperity Altar so I know it'll work for you. This takes time and dedication to please don't think I manifested this overnight.
First, please read my prior blog on prosperity and the occult to understand energy work and how to generate true abundance. This work is not as surface level and low effort as we'd like. There's a much deeper undercurrent to prosperity magic that we much access prior to achieving true abundance in our lives. Layering self love and communication spells to enchant clients with my words is essential, allowing my prosperity workings to work more powerfully.
However, not every practitioner needs to be as extreme and dramatic in their craft as I am. This extreme, passionate zealotry has brought me a life beyond my wildest dreams so... It's up to you. If all we feel like doing is lighting a gold candle and writing a petition, that's great and can produce some results, dependent on the practitioner.

Altars as Sacred Space
The concept of a Prosperity Altar was first explained to me in a book about Southern Conjure but spiritual practitioners of every variety use Prosperity Altars. Like any Altar, it's a sacred space in which we knock, and the spirit or energy answers.
Magic really is that simple.
Please note that I'll be capitalizing certain words to denote sacred status. I just reread this and ya'll are going to wonder why I'm capitalizing the word "Altar." It's my Christian ancestors: They are capitalization freaks.
Altars are used to build a relationship with a type of energy. The strength of that relationship depends on our strength and dedication shown to that energy. Of course, magical workings, or spells, can be performed on Prosperity Altars to attract prosperity, abundance and wealth but I also use my Altar to hold various prosperity tools (and the energy within) I have like gold candles, my Money Bowl, prosperity charms I create, and gifts/taglocks/items (like an envelope) holding the energy from my favorite admirers. Placing cash from my favorite admirers on my Altar helps to transfer abundant energy to it.

Cloth: Showing Respect
There are few rules to Altar making and I recommend that you do what resonates with you and what your spirit is feeling. Most Altars incorporate a cloth, using it as a basic sign of respect shown to spirit. It delineates the separation between sacred and unsacred space.
My Prosperity Altar is a Santa Muerte prosperity altar (blog post on the open practice of devotion to the patron saint of the stigmatized to come) and in her tradition, gold is used in money magic so I tend to stick with gold cloth and candles, but sometimes I use green colored tools in my money magic because of the correspondence it has in my American mind with money.
Our Prosperity Altar can be portable if we don't have space or if we must stay in the broom closet. Find a suitable box or bag and hide your Altar contents, using them when it's safe to. I bring a few items from mine on tour because, why not? It feels smart to carry this energy with me as I travel.
Our Altar can be as big or small as our space allows. If we want to get super technical, Altars facing the East, the direction the sun rises in, are used to attract new things into our lives. If we want to banish something from our lives, often times we'll face West when practicing energy work. Directions can be used in different ways: Put something in the North to cool it off and put it in the South to warm it up. I don't go that deep with my Prosperity Altar and put it where I had room.

Adding a Spiritual Anchor
A spiritual anchor can be added to our Altars to show reverence for our higher powers and to bless/program/charge our space.
For those that use Christianity in their craft like me, a Bible or a cross can be added to our Prosperity Altars. Many of our ancestors were powerful in their Christian devotion and although it took work to overcome my resentments against Christianity and my Christian ancestors, using Christian prayers and crossing myself invokes their power and brought me amazing results I didn't think were possible. Sure, I didn't believe and was grossed out by the Bible at first, but I knew that if I wanted my ancestors to aid in my work that I needed a Bible and have been shocked at how well my prosperity work has been progressing compared to the magic I did without the aid of the Bible.
Keep in mind, I was forced to attend Episcopalian church and Catholic school (including Friday Catholic masses) until I was sixteen so I grew up saying the Lord's prayer and experiencing Catholic pageantry, so once I overcame most of my resentments toward the Bible as a spiritual text, I was able to use it as it invokes the power of my blood ancestors and the ancestors of other practices I don't publicly discuss but whose ancestors I privately honor in many ways.
Papa Seer, a talented Diviner, told me during an eerily accurate reading that my Christian ancestors were so devout and gifted that they willed what they desired into existence through prayer alone. This is the power of the Word, ours and God's/the Goddess's. When those words/worlds are aligned, true prosperity emerges.
If your ancestors weren't Christian, anything that has a spiritual significance to you can be added to anchor your Altar like a crystal, a pentagram, a photo of the moon: Add something representing a higher power to you. I also have a postcard of the moon on my Altar.

Creating a Money Bowl/Jar
Money Bowls aid in rewiring our minds, tuning us to the frequencies of prosperity and abundance if we're not already sitting with this energy and they keep us present with this energy once we are prosperous. A Money Bowl holds the energy of money flowing in and out of our lives, the cyclical give and take of life because money flows in and out of our Money Bowls. There are many ways to create and work a Money Bowl and I'll tell you what works for me.
Aesthetics are important to me and my practice but it's also important to use what I have, if possible, so I reused an old glass peanut butter jar and added money stickers to the outside, hiding glue residue from the label. A gold or green cloth could be glued onto the jar or placed in the bowl. Painting, maybe gold paint, would be pretty. Get creative and decorate your Money Bowl because the universe notes the amount of energy we put into our craft and awards us accordingly.
I'll write later in more detail about how I work my Money Bowl while working my Prosperity Altar but remember, a Money Bowl can be separate from a Prosperity Altar. We can choose to start with just a Money Bowl and then add a Prosperity Altar from there, which is what I did.
When working my Money Bowl, I see it as symbolizing my personal prosperity so anything I add needs to symbolize prosperity or attraction. People use rice, cat whiskers, coins, checks, cash, mint, cinnamon sticks and anything at all that energetically aligns with prosperity attraction. I often light a gold candle and do a mini-working when adding items representing prosperity to my Money Bowl because I feel like simply throwing some oregano in, or writing a petition, isn't enough.
Money can be added and removed from our Money Bowl and this is a basic way many people work their bowl, knowing that each time they spend money, more money flows back to them. This is why mutual aid, helping others, is so important. Giving what we can afford to give, quietly, allows the universe to see that we aren't selfish and don't horde our wealth. The universe will then bless us with more abundance, seeing that we won't be selfish a-holes with our blessings. We can always afford to give someone something, even just $1 to an unhoused person.
I never understood this concept until I starting giving my money to other SWers (and non-SWers) who needed it and started booking the extended sessions I didn't think were achievable.
There are certain Money Bowl tips I think I'll save for another blog relating to SWers and how we can most effectively work a Money Bowl.

What represents prosperity?
Once we have our cloth, our spiritual anchor and our Money Bowl set up, we can begin to think more deeply about what else we should add to our Altars to draw prosperity to us and begin to place items on our Altars that will ritualistically symbolize the act of drawing money and abundance into ourselves.
What holds the energy of prosperity, you ask? The law of correspondence states the obvious: Anything green can represent money if money is green in your part of the world and if you associate prosperity with the verdant, bright power of green. Any item, natural or unnatural, that's gold can help us to attract prosperity due to our associations with gold and wealth. Magnetic gold dust has produced amazing results for me and I use it in a variety of non-traditional ways.
Previously I mentioned Papa Seer, host of the podcast Hoodoo & Chill, because his spiritual advice and energy has taught me so much and I'm oddly drawn to him and his show despite not practicing hoodoo because... I'm not black and wasn't raised in it but I learn about and incorporate tools and Altars from many practices.
Papa Seer discussed how we can walk with the Spirit of Prosperity on an episode of his mind shifting podcast and this discussion was pivotal in my life because I was ready to receive his message. He teaches us that prosperity is an energy/spirit that we either either do or do not walk with.
We must stop saying, "I can't afford that," or, "I'm unlucky, I'm broke," because we're speaking lack and negativity into existence, a topic I've mentioned in a prior occult blog. We can choose to shift our words, actions and thoughts to speak prosperity into existence.
I used to watch gossip videos on YouTube dedicated to crap talking and negatively judging strangers. The negativity this behavior attracted to me wasn't something I was aware of until I began focusing on teaching myself magic and performing tons of self love/money/abundance workings. As I shifted my attention to the energy of prosperity/love and less on the energy of negativity, I began working out more, weight training, learning about branding and communication strategies, drawing more prosperity and self love into my orbit.

Get Creative
Magic is an art form so we can go all out and get creative adding whatever we believe will draw prosperity to us, such as items from generous ancestors that remind us of prosperity, invoking their assistance.
I have a raw citrine crystal on my altar because it's bright, sunny energy has been used for many years to draw things in. Using an organic cinnamon stick as incense and putting it in a chime candle holder to burn is one of my favorite tools to set the mood for a money drawing spell on my Altar.
It's traditional to create a ritualistic experience to call our ancestors and the Spirit of Prosperity to us and our Altars. I clap three times, as recommended by a book I read. Different techniques for calling upon energy are used at used at different Altars. Sometimes I play an annoyingly, funny, catchy 888hz money song to raise energy at my altar after calling the Spirit down and lighting a candle.

Chant Your Heart Out
We shouldn't doubt the power of our words: We're casting spells with our words and performing rituals with our actions.
We should come up with a chant that we will repeat after we light our Altar candle (green, gold or white) and work our Money Bowls. Visualizing how we'll make our money while chanting is extremely powerful. I picture the email I'm going to receive from my favorite admirer as he books overnight after overnight. I imagine myself on the plane, heading to a FMTY and the luxurious dinner we'll have together in a hotel suite overlooking the city. The thousands of dollars in cash comes to mind, and I throw it up above my head, luxuriating in the freedom it will buy and the ways I'll help others and myself with these blessings.
The chant I like, said in Spanish to show my devotion to La Madrina (and because it gets me great results) is as follows: "Now and forever, I walk with the spirit of Prosperity, Abundance and Wealth." This will call this energy into our lives. The words we speak, the chants we repeat, that which we focus on will affect our reality and the energies surrounding us by drawing certain things to us.
Being still and silent is not something I'm good at, if you couldn't tell, but is a necessary part of Altar work. Setting our alarms to go off in 5 minutes, lighting a candle and either staring into the flame or closing our eyes and counting our breaths, reeling our "monkey mind" back when it wanders, allows the silence for spirit, our subconscious, to speak and guide us.
Practical Application
In the hopes that a few Chosen magical or magically-curious people will read this entire blog, I'm posting more detailed information on how I work my Altar in a different post so this isn't too long. I'll go over how I use money, gifts or envelopes from clients in my craft and will go into more detail on which tools work best for me.
At the end of the lunar cycle, it's all very simple: Prosperity Altars represent and hold the energies of prosperity and abundance so we add items that hold this energy, increasing the flow of energy. After I have a booking, I lay my cash down on my Altar to assist in creating a prosperous atmosphere and because my intuition, or Spirit, guided me to do so. It feels right.
I add gift bags and trinkets from generous clients, a stolen pubic hair or three (joking... or am I?) to enhance the energy of prosperity. These tools can then be used to work these specific clients, but you can teach yourself how to do that. This is a client-facing blog and we don't want to scare the locals.
All a Prosperity Altar really needs is a cloth, a spiritual anchor and an item representing prosperity like a coin. Don't let my dramatic nature and attention to detail fool you: This craft can be very simple and is simple at it's core while simultaneously being very complex. If you know what I mean.
I tend to go into a lot of detail and expend a lot of energy during my prosperity workings because those of us with attention and visualization issues may feel we need to spend more time on our work. Others, who can easily conjure up images or place their attention on a spell 100%, may only need to light a white candle, clap or stomp three times to draw their ancestors and the Spirit of Prosperity to their space and open communication. They say a few psalms, mean it, and are done.
My Prosperity Altar has quite a few goodies on it and I recommend keeping our post-spell debris on our Altars to allow the energies to linger and flow. Don't clean up your magic.
Money doesn't bring us happiness and isn't the point of life. Creativity is. But money sure helps to provide us with the time and energy to create art.
If you're curious to learn about more detailed prosperity energy work and what exactly I do at my Altar, stay tuned and like my Bluesky posts, comment any questions or input, and repost because that's what friends are for.
One last thing: This work doesn't often manifest overnight. It may take a few years to notice extreme results and magic works within reason. Don't give up because you don't immediately become super wealthy. I started noticing my work paying off slowly, in dribs and drabs, and didn't attract the prosperity I desired until I focused on self love and communication workings in addition to prosperity.
