Bush is Back: Sex Work and Body Hair

When most people conjure up images of companions/sex workers in their minds, these images generally fit certain societally prescribed, male-gaze centered norms created by capitalist/Eurocentric beauty ideals: They imagine a cisgender woman with cheesy implants, no tattoos, blonde hair, white, hairless, thin but with an inexplicably big ass.

Why then, are so many sex workers flaunting the fact that they're "naturally groomed," growing in their bush/pit/leg hair and going full hippie in opposition to mainstream, pro-prepubescent pussy standards? I hate to break it to some folks, but this is a business and many of us do this to make money. We therefore modify our bodies in order to increase our earning potential. Many of the sex workers I know are plastic surgery freaks, obsessing about implants, nose jobs and BBL's. They diet, exercise and plan their lives around fitting mainstream beauty standards.

Many of us reject these standards and embrace our weirdness/reject beauty norms, which, counterintuitively, can be a very financially viable way to succeed as a provider because authenticity sells. If someone authentically wants to be a cookie cutter Barbie doll, they'll be successful. If someone authentically feels comfortable presenting in a different way, they will also be successful. As my previous blogs have stated, SW is less about looks and more about the ability to seduce and some of the greatest seductresses in history weren't traditionally attractive, according to The Art of Seduction by Robert Greene.

The slowly rising popularity of body hair is due to, in my opinion, the current pre-Age of Aquarius we find ourselves in, mirroring the last Age of Aquarius that occurred in the 1960's. This was a time when many younger folks rejected mainstream capitalist control and created their own counterculture. Loving ourselves for who we are becomes the norm for a brief decade in time, as does a rebellious, communal spirit that fights for a higher cause. During this time, Wicca and various forms of spirituality came to the forefront and people turned on, tuned in and dropped out in order to live life on their own terms as opposed to the terms society prescribed that ultimately led to a lack of life fulfillment.

This is the essence of Aquarius energy: independent, rebellious, empathetic, communal and as an Aquarius sun sign (Scorpio Moon, hence the seductive, magnetic spice), I'm totally into this energy.

My guess (based on my small survey of in-person SWers) is that a small segment of the SW community are feeling this totally freeing vibe but most of us trim/shave a bit, still keeping some hair on our genitalia. Providers who grow in all their body hair generally live in the Bay area/LA or NYC and have a certain aesthetic. They tend to run in the same circles so may think that this liberating acceptance of body hair is a universal thing, when it appears to me that only a minority of providers are going full bush. They are a vocal minority, but a minority nonetheless. This opinion is merely based on my anecdotal evidence and there's no way to know for sure.

Before we delve more deeply into that subject, let's unpack why femme body hair is seen as unattractive by most Westerners.

The Obvious: Hairless Skin Signals Youth

This paper explains how men perceive women without body hair as more youthful and attractive. We can't extrapolate much from such small studies, but it's worth noting the connection between infantilization of women, hairlessness and attraction. Patriarchy/capitalism are threatened by grown, strong women and seek to contain us so we remain barefoot and pregnant, upholding the social order. One way to do this is to shame women who have natural body hair and emphasize the value of infantile, weak women.

Women are also shamed and told that we lose value as we age, while men are seen as hot "silver foxes" whose value increases with age but these notions are also shifting with an increasing acceptance and centering of older women within mainstream narratives. TV shows, films, magazines and pop culture tended to totally disregard women once we're over 30-35 but all we have to do is scroll the latest releases on HBO (Max?) or Netflix to see that ageism slowly evaporating. I think that the increasing rejection of female infantilization and growing adoration of women over 30 has helped open our minds to the idea of women with natural body hair.

Capitalist Control: Buy, Buy, Buy

The same paper explains how marketing strategies brainwashed us into believing that hair removal was the only option for women. It's genius, really: Razor companies realized that they could create an entirely new market by convincing women that body hair removal was necessary to appear more youthful/feminine/attractive. Why stick to simply marketing razors to men? In 1915, Gilette introduced the first ladies razor but shaving poon wasn't really a thing back then. Over time, advertisements went further and further, with the introduction of the Brazilian wax (and therefore, pussy hair removal) in the early 2000s, a time when my own brain was being molded.

For those of us who grew up on Sex and the City and 2000s porn, pubic hair was a no-no.

Porn: Need I Say More?

I swear, I don't watch much porn. But when I do (it's creampie porn...), I'm fascinated by the fact that women are increasingly sporting at least some pubic hair. The norm seems to be fully shaved puss but more porn actors are leaving at least some hair there.

Despite this minor evolution I've noticed, most porn features women who have almost no body hair, if any. Mainstream porn has helped to brainwash many folks in the Western world into believing that certain things are attractive, like female infantilization, thinness, big boobs, hairless female bodies and "porn" style sex that never requires consent or asking a woman what she likes/what will make her orgasm. It's all about the male orgasm, the male gaze, and under 25 hairless women, MILF porn aside.

Pubic Hair Shame

Most women have probably been shamed or witnessed others being shamed for their body hair. I remember the agony of waxing the sides of my bush as a kid so I wouldn't be made fun of while swimming like my friend Maggie. She had pubes poking out of her swimsuit at Ellen's N.'s pool party and was bullied for it, although she was one of the cool kids so it didn't seem to affect her.

I shaved the sides and left a landing strip of hair when I was young but never shaved all of my pubic hair because, even when I was young and more naive, it felt wrong. Being a natural redhead was something that, when I was very young, I felt made me ugly/not fit in but once I got to college I realized that natural red hair was a powerful gift. I therefore always maintained some ginger fur, despite the fact that we were at the height of Brazilian wax mania.

Oddly enough, men have never shamed me for the two things I thought they would shame me for when I was younger: my pubic hair and my fat puss. The only person who's body shamed my fat pussy is, of course, another woman: the unbalanced doxxer, professional stalker/hacker/outer of other SWers, Vegas escort V.P. (Yes, she traumatized me in many ways so I'm annoying and bring it up 24/7 because it shocks and disgusts me that people like this are allowed to exist in our "community." Talking about it is the only way I feel a catharsis and don't go utterly crazy, ending up satisfied that justice was served yet in women's maximum security prison for life. Venting in my blogs and hexing are the only outlets I have so I appreciate your patience as my friends really don't want to hear about it anymore.)

Men either love my voluptuously juicy puss or don't have an opinion and are happy to get an aromatic whiff.

The same goes for minge hair: I went through a phase recently where I didn't shave or trim my bush at all and no one complained but this is in opposition to what many providers report. They claim that clients body shame their hair and they feel as though they make more money with a hairless look. Others feel differently.

I go through phases with my pubic hair because I'm a non-committal, airy Aquarius sun: Usually I shave her on the sides and trim. Or I'll shave everywhere but will leave a ginger stripe on the front. Guys don't comment on my pubes because, I assume, I project a certain image and attract sapiosexual admirers who care about the experience I provide, not my pubes. If a client wanted me to shave more, I'd consider it if the price was right but most don't seem to care and are happy to be in my heavenly, ginger minged presence, as they should be.

A Certain Type of Provider

There's a certain subset of providers in big cities, like LA and NYC, who proudly promote their totally furry state. Arm pit hair, leg and of course, totally untamed bush hair are obvious fetishes for certain clients but I thought that was usually a kink subs sought out. Apparently not. These are FS providers, and dommes, but their branding is usually similar: Think "free spirit in a forest, leftist political hot takes, college educated, reads obscure books, no/minimal makeup, tattoos, alternative, 'crunchy granola' with an edge" which is definitely an appealing aesthetic to many clients.

I may or may not fill a few (or all) of these categories with my branding, which is why many of my clients tell me they love body hair. Towing the line between empathic alt/authentic "weirdo" who rejects beauty norms and elegant femme fatale is my thing.

These clients who visit totally naturally groomed providers, however, possibly don't live in the South or the Midwest. They're, in my guestimation, well heeled East or West Coast dudes who are more educated, liberal, and worldly. I don't know if many hairy providers can make it work in more suburban or rural areas just like highly tatted providers struggle outside of LA/the Bay area and NYC. As I've said, there's no way to study SWers or our clients accurately so this is my opinion based on anecdotal evidence after talking to many providers and asking them about their location and body hair choices.

The Semiotics of Femme Body Hair

What does it signify to clients when a provider has fur on her body? It says, "I'm a wild child who plays by my own rules. I am the ultimate rebel, leftist, and free thinker. I am not a Republican."

This is very hot for obvious reasons. It's says: I'm a passionate lover because I'm open minded and remind you of a return to the hedonistic free love of the 1960's. Many clients are turned on by independent, rebellious women and many are not.

Many clients want a Barbie doll to play with. They seek providers who fit the mold and adhere to all mainstream beauty norms. These client don't book me, thank God/dess.

That right, Timmy. You best shave that man bush or I'll drain your savings account dry and make you my bitch. Wait, you'd like that wouldn't you?

The Mechanics of Oral: Why Men Should Shave, Not Women

One can only hope that gender norms change and men begin trimming or shaving their bushes while women grow ours in. (That was a joke... Kind of.) I believe I may have written something on my site's policies section about preferring clients who "trim" or shave their pubes because I truly hate getting pubes in my teeth/mouth. When a man is giving a lady oral, he should be aiming for the love nub and not the lips/mons pubis so generally isn't going to get hair in his teeth or mouth. Additionally, he's licking and not sucking so there's a lower chance that he'll accidentally suck hair up through his teeth. He's also a big, burly man and can handle a little pube in his mouth.

I am a dainty, delicate, demure lady and I shall not tolerate nary a pubage in my grill.

See? I only reinforce gender norms when they benefit me.

When someone gives oral to a dude, they're sucking and are very likely to suck up the hair surrounding the peen into their teeth or mouth. I can't tell you how many times I have had a (relative) stranger's hair stuck in my teeth and it makes me ill so if a guy has a non-trimmed bush, I have to place my fingers around the shaft to hold down the bush. This may lower the pleasure he's feeling. I'm just saying, it makes more sense for guys to shave than women if we're talking about actual sexy times.

Call me a priss, but no, this preference isn't body shaming like an off-the-deep-end-wokester commented on my Bluesky. We can have preferences and others need to not take it personally when we do.

I, for example, will never grow my pit hair out because pit hair provides a nice, dark, moist, warm home for bacteria to thrive and I'm smellier when I don't shave. Many other folks report that they have increased body odor when they don't shave their pits. This is my preference and a man would have to pay me if he wanted me to grow it out.

It's so refreshing to see progress being made on the bushwhacking front with, as usual, SWers leading the progressive charge to revert away from the totally hairless beauty norms of 30-10 years ago. I do feel pressure to keep my bush "maintained" and trim her for photoshoots because I'm brainwashed into seeing a spouted bush protruding from underwearz/bodysuits as unattractive. That doesn't mean I'm body shaming anyone: It's what I like, aesthetically speaking, because I came of age during the bare Bikini Wax bonanza of the early 2000s.

Hopefully, little girls today aren't pressured into bushwhacking at a young age like I was and can love themselves as they are. I can only imagine how much time, money, and energy was spent removing hair throughout my life.
